Pleasure. Here's what I get that from.
One of the main tenets of Nia is that I can choose pleasure.
The thing about pleasure (which I’m continuously learning and relearning) is that it won’t always automatically just drop into my experience, but rather I have the ability to choose it.
And it’s kind of magical, because I’ve come to see that pleasure is always there for the taking. It’s just up to me to figure out what shift in my attitude, tweak in my perspective, or modification of my body will allow pleasure to show itself to me.
In other words, pleasure doesn’t always find me. It’s not waiting for me to soothe or distract me. Instead, I believe that I need to be consciously on the lookout for it, finding ways to invite it in by adapting to my present situation. So if I’m not in pleasure, it has nothing to do with *her* or *that* or *them*. And it has EVERYTHING to do with ME.
I am so blessed to have many, many things that give me true and deep pleasure in my life, and I want to share them with you. I know I can always find pleasure in these things, and that I can work to adjust my perspective to find MORE PLEASURE IN MORE THINGS because I know how to do that.
This list sort of poured out of me, and so these things are in no particular order.
Right now, I find pleasure in:
Fresh air.
Deep sleep.
Steaming coffee in a blue pottery mug from Broadview Espresso.
Nailing Nia choreography.
Finding inspirational music – like this and this and this.
Sharing on Instagram.
LEARNING! Oh, how I adore learning!
- about how to run my business from my Art Picnic buddies (Firefly Creative Writing, Radical Creative Sanctuary, Red Tent Sisters & Jamie Ridler Studios)
- about how to make my business sing online via Nathalie Lussier and Mari Smith
- about how to grow as a Nia teacher through Martha Randall , Roberta Mohler , Winalee Zeeb, Kevin VerEecke, Debbie Rosas and more!
- about how to be a better Speech-Language Pathologist through my professional mentor Marla Feldman of NRC Feldman & Associates, Inc.
And I ALWAYS find pleasure in Trying new things. Like singing with a choir. With the ever pleasure-able Danette Relic.
Choir Choir Choir – Take on Me by Aha from jennifer hicks on Vimeo (this video is deliberately un-edit, just like my life).
Tell me, what in your life gives you pleasure?
