Sunday Scribblings #4 – Masks

When I was profoundly depressed, my good friend LIna, who was my
guardian angel in India, taught me two important things:

1. She continually encouraged me to “fake it till you make it”

2. To respond to my moods by embracing the mantra “act as if”

I made a diligent effort to try be serious about these applying these lessons. At first I felt like an imposter, and that I deserved an honorary Oscar for my dramtic performances.

Sometimes I felt lost behind this mask, shocked at the character I so often needed to play. Other times I had to go without it, exposing my truth, simply honouringthe necessity of my emotional state.

Very rarely now do I need my mask. It’s always handy, though. But nowadays I don’t need to do so much “faking” and “acting”. My peace and joy now are drawn from a genuine well. The other day Gwen pointed that out to me. It reminded me of how far I’ve come.

Mmmmm….so satisfying…..

“Fake it ’til you make it.”

    These are words of wisdom.

    Thanks!
