Jenn: Could you share a little about yourself? (e.g., hobbies, interests, or what you do outside of class).
Sarah: Sure! I’m a graphic designer, and I love being creative both at work and in my personal life. Outside of work, I enjoy painting, trying out new recipes in the kitchen, and spending time outdoors—especially hiking. I’ve always been interested in movement, but I didn’t realize how much I would love dance fitness until I started these classes!
Jenn: What first brought you to Dance Fitness classes?
Sarah: I was looking for something different from my usual gym routine, something that would be fun but still give me a good workout. I’d seen some posts about Dance Fitness online, and it seemed like a welcoming environment to try something new without feeling out of place.
Jenn: How did you feel before your first class? Nervous, excited, unsure?
Sarah: Honestly, I was nervous! I hadn’t taken a dance or group fitness class in years, so I felt a bit unsure. But there was also excitement because I was finally doing something for myself that looked enjoyable.
Jenn: Have you had previous experience with dance or fitness classes, or is this a new venture for you?
Sarah: I did a bit of dance when I was younger but never kept up with it. I’ve mostly been into yoga and strength training over the years, but this is my first time really committing to a dance fitness class. I was a bit worried I wouldn’t remember the moves, but the atmosphere is so encouraging.
Jenn: What challenges have you faced during the classes, and how did you overcome them?
Sarah: In the beginning, I found some of the moves tricky to coordinate. But after a couple of classes, I realized that everyone was focused on their own journey, and perfection wasn’t the goal—it was all about enjoying the movement. Over time, I just let myself go with the flow and trusted what you always say: “Feeling good is more important than looking good or getting it ‘right'”.
Jenn: How would you describe the sense of community in Dance Fitness classes?
Sarah: It’s genuinely uplifting! I’ve never felt judged or out of place. Everyone’s friendly and supportive, whether it’s your first class or you’ve been attending for months. There’s an encouraging energy in the room (and even on Zoom)that makes me want to keep coming back.
Jenn: Have you made connections or friendships through the class? How has that influenced your experience?
Sarah: Definitely! I’ve met a few people I regularly chat with before and after class, both when we’re online and when in person. It’s great to share the experience with others who get the same joy from it. Having friends there makes it even more motivating to show up, even on days when I might feel tired.
Jenn: Do you have a favorite memory or moment from any of the classes?
Sarah: Yes! One of my favorite moments was when we did a choreographed routine to a Michael Jackson song. I looked around and saw everyone smiling and totally in sync—it was like we were all dancing at a party! That moment reminded me of why I love coming to these classes.
Jenn: Have you noticed any changes in how you approach movement or fitness outside of class?
Sarah: Yes! I feel more in tune with my body, and I’m much more mindful about adding movement into my daily routine. It’s as if the class gave me permission to be less rigid and to enjoy movement as a way to feel good, not just to “exercise.”
Jenn: How have Dance Fitness classes impacted other areas of your life, like work, hobbies, or even relationships?
Sarah: The classes have definitely helped my confidence, not just in movement but overall. I’m more relaxed and energized, and I notice it in my work too. I’m more focused and productive, and I think my coworkers have noticed the positive change in my energy.
Jenn: How do you feel after class?
Sarah: I feel amazing! There’s this sense of accomplishment and joy that stays with me for the rest of the day. It’s like a reset button for both my mind and body—I leave class feeling recharged and ready to tackle whatever comes next.
Jenn: What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining but feels a bit nervous or hesitant?
Sarah: I’d say just go for it! Everyone starts somewhere, and this class is all about having fun and feeling good. The community is so welcoming, and you won’t regret giving it a try. I was nervous too, but now I can’t imagine not being part of these classes!
