I've been TIRED all day!

So how did I possibly teach a Nia class tonight?

It was possible because I have teaching tools designed to help me manage such situations!

When my physical energy is low, I’m able to fall back on a key teaching principle from my White Belt training called “Teaching What You Sense.”

This principle allows me to sink into my body’s sensation and find energy from it. No matter how I might be feeling, I can remain in my body’s sensation which gives me the opportunity to be in my body in the here and now.  Doing that allows me to discover details and opportunities yet to be experienced in my movement practice. Being present to the now treats my body with respect: I’ll only move in ways that give my body pleasure at any given time. Not only that, but I am sharing a unique experience with my students which treats them to otherwise unknown sensory opportunities.

Each and every time I teach, I get to explore my body’s sensation as if for the first time. When I do that, I have access to new discoveries to share with my students. And so every experience is new and alive and and my joy is readily available for me to inject into my movement.

My students are able to feed from my attentiveness to my body, and voila, they can become more aware of being open to creating their own pleasurable movement.

And then, the bonus: I get their energy back and can carry on teaching!

I LOVE this! *takes notes furiously*
My go-to approach has always been push-push-push and “rise above”…which is not really the ideal for someone trying to teach women to listen to and respect their bodies. It’s refreshing to hear about an approach that doesn’t mean you’re fighting your body! Thank you for sharing it!
